To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.
1 How long, O Lord? Will You forget me forever? How long will You hide Your face from me? 2 How long shall I take counsel in my soul, Having sorrow in my heart daily? How long will my enemy be exalted over me?
3 Consider and hear me, O Lord my God; Enlighten my eyes, Lest I sleep the sleep of death; 4 Lest my enemy say, “I have prevailed against him”; Lest those who trouble me rejoice when I am moved.
5 But I have trusted in Your mercy; My heart shall rejoice in Your salvation. 6 I will sing to the Lord, Because He has dealt bountifully with me.
Have you ever felt like this? Maybe you feel like this right now. Maybe you feel guilty for feeling this way. Perhaps you think a man or woman of faith shouldn’t feel this way. Maybe you have even been taught that if you feel this way, you have lost faith and God is disappointed in you. Well, I am here to tell you, I have felt this way more times than I can count in my life of faith! I used to feel condemned and receive all the guilt my adversary could throw at me until one day, I opened my eyes to see who was writing the Psalm. It was David! Mighty King David. The man after God’s own heart! The warrior king. The great man who was a fore-shadow of Jesus Christ Himself. Even Jesus has his moment on the cross, “My God, my God why have you forsaken me?” Matthew 27:46
The Psalms are full of outcries of disappointment and fear. They are also full of declarations of faith and power! THIS is a life of faith. Faith does not mean that you all of a sudden become hyper human and no longer deal with feelings of fear or disappointment. But that in the midst of those things you continue to keep your eyes on Jesus, the Author and Finisher of your faith, Hebrews 12: 2. At times we experience such extreme testing in our lives that all we can do is keep our eyes on Jesus. Moment by moment. This is what walking by faith is all about, being in the midst of trouble and knowing that in it, you are held safe and sound and upheld by the righteous right hand of God, Himself!
10 Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’
You are in good company, keep walking.
