The road home is like a long yesterday I can’t forget
A distant memory that’s constant, present
Trying to revive some long ago
A gift from days gone by.

The road home has felt like a great returning
But can’t seem to find my footing
In the place that calls me
The place of quiet, simplicity
Welcoming and still

The air that opens up to me as if to say
This is your belonging, home.
The sky that is my canopy,
My shelter, my covering
The rain that brings the calm
That brings the strong aroma
Of settling in, curling up
As the pit-pat cradles me

The road home is full of peril
Disappointment
But the letting go of all those expectations
Feels like a welcome smile
That assures me…
“All is well. It’s ok”.

I can feel it
Speak to me
A familiar voice
Like mother’s lullaby
The voice of soft eyes
Taking me in her arms
Like the promise of never leaving
As she watches me in the distance
While I run
While I dance

The road home; this song that plays
Over open fire and lazy days
A song that makes family
That connects us
In our sorrow, laughter, and dreaming

The melody that opens hearts
And long-forgotten wounds
Not for grief but for gratitude

The road home, my decades of longing
I can hear the song in the distance
It leads me, beckons me, “come”
Reminding me who I am
Where I belong

The sound
Unmistakable
Its memory
Unshakable
Home
Beautiful home!
Loved this… Crisie… the depth, the revealing, the feeling, the sharing in opening up your heart with love. So proud of you .. the life you are living and the life you are giving to others in the process. Thank you for being you .. and following our Lord as He leads you forward. Much love and admiration…
Thank you Cindy! I appreciate and honor your encouragement. It means a lot! I love you!
Beautiful poem Crisie – one that rings true in my heart and I’m sure will do so in the hearts of many others. Thank you for sharing this.
Thank you Mendy. It’s been a long time in the making. The feeling has been there for years, but articulating it has only come recently. Thanks for your encouragement! Love you!
