SECTION 2- THE TABERNACLE OF MOSES

  1. God’s brings the children of Israel out of Egypt for one thing- worship   a. Exodus 5:1  Afterward Moses and Aaron went in and told Pharaoh, “Thus says the Lord God of Israel:

Let My people go , that they may hold a feast to Me in                                     the wilderness.’”   b. Exodus 7:16 (ref. worship)      And you shall say to him, ‘The Lord God of the Hebrews has sent me to you, saying,

“ Let My people go, that they may serve Me in the wilderness”   c. Exodus 8:1        And the Lord spoke to Moses, “ Go to Pharaoh and say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord:

Let My people go, that they may serve Me.   d. Exodus 8:8      Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron, and said, “Entreat the Lord that He may take

away the frogs from me and from my people; and I will let the people go, that they may

sacrifice to the Lord.”    e. Exodus 8:20       And the Lord said to Moses, “Rise early in the morning and stand before Pharaoh as he

comes out to the water. Then say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord:                           “Let My people go, that they may serve Me.

  1. God’s desire for His people/The reason the Tabernacle was erected:  a. To dwell among His People – Exodus 25: 8

2. Sacrifices/offerings in the Tabernacle

  • Burnt Offering- Lev. 1 ; 6: 8-13
  • Grain Offering- Lev. 2 ; 6: 14-23
  • Peace Offering- Lev. 3 ; 7: 11-21
  • Sin Offering- Lev. 4 ; 6: 24-30
  • Trespass Offering- Lev. 5 ;7: 1-10
  • Daily Offerings- Ex. 29: 38-41
  • DAY OF ATONEMENT- Lev. 16

3. Sacrifice/Offering- Defined:

  1. Sacrifice: The act of giving up something you want to keep/something of value to get or do something else or help another person; something precious. King David refused to offer anything to God that did not cost him something: 2 Sam.  24:18-25
  2. Offering: gift, present, tribute – EX: (Corban: a gift particularly designated for the Lord and so forbidden for any other use (Mark 7:11) Jesus referred to some persons who mistakenly and deliberately avoided giving needed care to their parents by declaring as “corban” any money or goods that could otherwise be used to provide such care. Thus what began as a religious act of offering eventually functioned as a curse, denying benefit to one’s own parents.
