Childhood Memories of Advent

For as long as I can remember back, as a child, our family observed Advent: the preparation of the days leading up to the celebration of Christmas; Christ’s birth.

An advent wreath was in the center of our dining room table from the beginning of December through Christmas Day. We would light the candles as the weeks passed, say a prayer, and reflect on what was coming on Dec. 25th. As children, our thoughts were on Santy Claus (lol) but as I currently reflect on that time in my life, it was a joyous and intimate memory.

When I became an adult, that tradition became that, just a memory. But lately, that memory is stirring in such a way that I’m inspired to relive it. Not as a religious tradition, but as a call to my heart to set my mind on Christ in a very purposeful way; and that is, to call to mind the wonderful news of a coming Savior and Redeemer.

In the hustle and frantic pace this season always generates, I want to slow down and become even more mindful of what this season means and what the reality of it brought to the entire world: HOPE!

May Christ be glorified in all!
