It is a heavy burden, the past we carry.

What has been, haunting every waking moment.

Ruminating….ruminating.

What could I have done different to change the outcome?

Outcomes we try desperately to lay to rest in various ways.

In a bottle, in our veins, in the loves we use and throw away.

Yet, none brings the peace we need.

There was a Man once, who walked these unforgiving streets.

Grace in His hands, our gift for free.

But we believe it’s a deal too good to be true, so we pass,

And keep walking. Weighed down.

It is finished.

And it is.

If we just choose to believe it.

Just believe it!

But we can’t because it feels better to punish ourselves than go free

After all, it’s what we deserve, isn’t it?

What has been is a Savior Who gave His life, as a ransom for our freedom.

From these filthy lies that berate us in the dark,

From the dirty places we’ve walked and embraced, willingly,

From the sins that beckons us day by day,

And the guilt we carry once we choose them.

There is mercy amid the lies of condemnation.

There is forgiveness and peace.

For what has been.

16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. John 3:16-17
