Familiar

There are untold stories

Of lives shattered

Hearts hardened by immense pain

There are unknown wounds

Of souls forgotten

Abandoned by the broken

How do you love when

You never knew love?

How do you nurture

When you were never held?

Untold lives

Going through the motions

Playing a part

Never disclosing the star they are

What are we to do

With our unclaimed lives

With these pieces

Still lying on the ground

Broken reflections

Of who we want to be

But have no clue

How to show up

and be seen

Can’t be seen

Can’t take the rejection

Can’t take the chance

The risk is too high

The pain to deep

But what of the love

We may find

The kindness

The empathy

What of it?

It’s safe here

In the shadows

Being unknown

Unloved

It’s familiar comfort

Familiar pain

Familiar

Familiar
